Announcements October 3, 2019

Parent/Teacher Conferences

We will hold parent/teacher conferences on Friday, October 11 (no school for students this day). Parents, if you would like to request a conference, please contact your child’s Advisory teacher.

IGP Conferences

ALL students will participate in an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conference each year, and we would love 100% parent participation. Use this link to select a time that suits your schedule. Our School Counselor Mrs. Epps will review the credits your student has earned and what he/she still needs to earn for graduation, as well as discuss career/college plans. She looks forward to meeting with you and your child!

Testing Schedule

As a public charter school, MMC participates in all state-mandated assessments. Please review the 2019-2020 Assessment Schedule and mark these dates on your calendar.  This is also posted on the “Resources” tab of our website, for future reference.

Attendance

Consistent attendance is a critical habit we want our students to develop before graduation. We have begun disciplinary consequences for students who skip classes or do not stay for PLT on Fridays as required. We also have a new procedure for students to check into the office first if they return late from lunch. Parents, we encourage you to get PowerSchool notifications on your phone to keep check on your child’s attendance and have consequences at home as well. Please remember that students must meet attendance requirements in each class to receive credit.

Dual Enrollment Interest Meeting

Mr. Whatley will hold a mandatory meeting for all students who are interested in taking dual enrollment classes for the Spring 2020 semester. The meeting will be Wednesday, October 9 at 10:30 in Mrs. Lee’s room. We will discuss the process and timeline of enrolling in dual enrollment courses at Midlands Tech.

FAFSA Workshops

If you have a student that is starting college (or even considering starting) in the Fall of 2020, October 1st is the start date to complete your FAFSA. FAFSA is federal student aid that helps pay for college. It also must be completed in order to receive a scholarship such as the Life or Hope. The Education Opportunity Center is working with us again to provide services in helping students complete their FAFSA. Below are dates and times of when you and your student can complete your FAFSA:

Prom Committee

The next meeting of the prom committee will be Thursday, October 10 at 10:20 a.m. in Mrs. Lee’s classroom (124). All interested parents and students are invited to attend.

Senior Pictures

Please see the attached letter for details on ordering senior pictures. We encourage you to contact the photographer directly and schedule a personalized appointment at her studio (the same prices, but a better experience for you). If you prefer to wait, she will be coming on campus in March. This year, our photographer will be taking both the cap & gown AND the traditional black drape/tux photo.

Graduation

Our spring graduation ceremony will be held the first week of June in downtown Columbia. We are working to finalize the exact date, time, and location, and we will share those details with you just as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

Enrollment for 2020

We have approximately 25 open spaces for new students to enroll with MMC in January 2020. If you know any student who would be a good fit here, please let them know how much you love MMC. For each new student you refer, your name will be entered into a drawing for a prize, to be announced!
