Health Education Materials

1.41. (SDE: Health Education) (1) Each school district is required to ensure that all comprehensive health education, reproductive health education, and family life education conducted within the district, whether by school district employees or a private entity, must utilize curriculum that complies with the provisions contained in Chapter 32, Title 59 and aligns to all standards and regulations adopted by the South Carolina State Board of Education. Each district shall publish on its website the title and publisher of all health education materials it has approved, adopted, and used in the classroom.

MMC does not offer physical education, health education, reproductive health education, or family life education taught by MMC faculty. Students in need of these credits take courses offered through VirtualSC or other approved platforms.

Instructional Materials Review Procedures

Regarding Regulation 43-170

South Carolina has implemented a clear, transparent, and uniform process. This process not only provides certainty for local educators and parents and safeguards students from materials that are not age or developmentally appropriate.

This process establishes consistent definitions and a two-prong threshold test for local educators and boards to determine if materials available to students in public schools are (1) age and developmentally appropriate and (2) educationally suitable and aligned with the purpose of South Carolina’s instructional program. It also creates a uniform process for local school boards to review and hold public hearings on complaints raised within its district.

Please click here to review information regarding Regulation 43-170 on the South Carolina Department of Education’s website.

To submit a complaint form to Midlands Middle College, please follow these steps: complete the Complaint Form listed below and email the form to [email protected].

Charter Performance Reporting

Midlands Middle College is a proud member of the SC Public Charter School District.  As a part of the state charter district, we are held to a high standard of putting Kids First in all we do.  To adequately reflect the work our state charter schools do, the SCPCSD has developed a new accountability model by which our district schools are rated.  This index directly rates MMC’s academics (based upon our charter goals), finances, and operations.

MMC serves 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.  MMC has a max enrollment of 135 students.  Due to this model, MMC does not test the required number of students to meet the minimum reporting guidelines to receive points for the academic achievement or preparing for success tiles on the report card.  This inability to receive these points directly affects our overall score.  The 2023-2024 school report card, therefore, does not adequately reflect the amazing work being done within our school.  We are focused on our students obtaining a state high school diploma and student’s college/career readiness.  Please celebrate with us, the following data:
  • Our students are leaving college and/or career ready.
  • Our students and staff recognize MMC as a safe learning environment, physically and social-emotionally.
