October 27 Announcements

Leave MMC at 9am and return at 2pm

We will be visiting the campus of USC Aiken to learn about all this college offers. We will hear from an admissions counselor, tour the campus and eat lunch in the dining hall. Students will need to bring money for lunch (I will let you know how much when I have a price from the college but I can’t imagine it’s more than $10 – if this is a concern please let me know!!)

Space is limited, bring your signed permission form back as soon as possible or email it to Mrs. Wilson at [email protected]

Permission form is attached to this email and copies are available in Mrs. Wilson’s office

Students are responsible for all school work missed while on the tour. If you are enrolled in a dual enrollment course that meets on Thursdays, you must reach out to the professor BEFORE missing class.

Happy Sunday!  We have a busy week ahead at MMC!  There are a lot of great things happening.  Please be sure to read through all announcements carefully.  If you have any questions at all, reach out to us.  Thank you so much for choosing MMC for your student to learn!!!

Report Cards

Report cards were mailed out last week and should have made their way to you all by now.  You can keep up with your student’s grades and attendance through PowerSchool in real time.  If you have not received your PowerSchool information, please reach out to Ms. Grahamand she will forward you your information. It is important for us all to work together for your student’s achievement.

Seat Time Recovery

Please continue to work with your student on making school important and being present everyday.  Being absent or late decreases instructional time which has a direct effect on class success.  As a reminder, students are allowed 5 unexcused absences per semester.  Students who are 30 minutes late or more for class are marked as an unexcused absence.  For students who have accumulated more than the allowed 5 unexcused absences, we have held several seat-time recovery opportunities.

We have been approached about 2 opportunities this week to volunteer to help Mr. Kelly Simmons and Empowered to WIN.  Students who sign up and attend one or both of these opportunities this week, will earn time toward set-time recovery.  It is important for students needing this time to sign up and take part now.  The opportunities for recovery will decrease as we move toward the end of the semester.  Don’t get caught with an FA in your course!  Make up the time now!

The first opportunity is this Wednesday night the 26th 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Boys and Girls Club Norman Arnold Center at 1100 S. Holley Street, Columbia.  See the attached flyer.  Students interested in this opportunity will need to sign-up.  Please see Ms. Epps for more information.

The second opportunity is Saturday, October 29th 8:00 am – 1:30 pm.  Students will be working directly with Mr. Kelly Simmons on this day.  Potential duties include: provide event information, assist with the Trunk or Treat, assist with facilitating our Sports Skills Challenges, and assist the flag football referees.  Students will need to sign up for this opportunity.  Please see Ms. Epps for information.

College Application Day

This week will be College Application Week at MMC.  We kick this week off with College Application Day tomorrow.  We have several colleges on hand to speak with students and seniors will be encouraged to complete at least one college application.  We are super excited for this event and know our students will have a great time!  For questions about this day, please reach out to Mrs. Wilson.

Josten’s Meetings

Immediately following the college fair,  Josten’s will hold class meetings.  Juniors will meet at 1:30 to receive information about ordering class rings.  Seniors will meet at 2:00 to receive information about purchasing caps & gowns and graduation announcements.  Be sure to ask your student about this information tomorrow night as the order deadlines will be quick.  See the attached announcements.

Dual Enrollment Advisement

Students taking dual enrollment classes in the spring will begin advisement this week.  MTC will be on campus Tuesday and Wednesday to begin scheduling courses.  Please see Mrs. Wilson about the schedule for these days.  If you are interested in dual enrollment for the spring, please see Mrs. Wilson as soon as possible.
